It's Up to Nostr users to onboard new Nostr users in person. The chances of a refugee from Facebook landing in the global feed and thinking they found a new online home here is... remote.

Sending out raw "Join me on Nostr" invites is like convincing someone who doesn't like to get all dressed Up - to dig out an obsolete party frock gathering dust, or get suited and booted in an outfit from a 1998 wedding do - before the onset of seed-oil spread or 4am workout routine scuppered the Kmart tailor's efforts.

You tell them to arrive at the party at a time when you know nobody Will be there - except a buffed mad Uncle in a tinfoil hat, an obsessive nutty computer science professor and an introverted kid who hasn't seen daylight or eaten any vegetables in months.

Of course, they are lovely folks with lots to say, and if they were the only other people left on the Planet after the bomb had dropped, you would instantly gravitate towards them, but...

... you were kind of expecting a room full of beautiful people buzzed on music and idle chit- chat - a warm and fuzzy vibe with a glass of something to ease you in to your new home.

I think Nostr is the future, and it's already halfway here now, but come on, has anyone actually gone through some of the onboarding processes, and put themselves in the shoes of the unwashed masses who know more about quantum physics than they do about cryptographic key pairs and NIPs?

Username, password, copy-paste into a a notepad - for now. Here's a wallet with 10 sats in it ready to use, and a person with an interest you share, to talk to... It's not that hard.

Except welcoming new faces to Nostr is hard for the dedicated nutty professor, mad Uncle and prison pallour kid busily building out Nostr.

So, on my Wordpress website, I'll be dumping the "Follow me on Nostr" widget - nsec.app 's technically brilliant but perfect techniphobe onboarding sabotaje effort - and sticking with a simple link to my profile page on Yakihonne.

I'll Zap new followers a few sats and say Hi. Maybe they can't face deciphering the new vocab to sign Up, but as lurkers their first experience of Nostr community Spirit could be a free download of a pretty good book - which appropriately is not for the faint of heart.

Come on Nostr, we can do it. #asknostr
